Each year on Canada Day, thousands of residents and guests of the area gather for activities throughout the day at Kelso Beach and line the city’s waterfront for dazzling fireworks at dusk.
THE SOUND WATERFRONT FESTIVAL, 2 days of celebrations along the waterfront in beautiful Owen Sound, taking place between Kelso Beach and The Owen Sound Visitors Centre.
Here is what is happening!
Friday, June 30 ~ 12 noon-6 p.m. at The Owen Sound Visitors Centre – Youth Day
• Arts and Crafts for kids
• Open Mic on the Stage
• Youth Discoveries Performers
• Storytime with Cassie from the Library
• Roxy Theatre Youth Team
• Other activities will include roaming jugglers and circus performers.
• The Billy Bishop Museum will be hosting Ghost Walks during the evening hours.
• The Community Waterfront Heritage Centre will feature displays, music as well as features on historical rail travel, tours of the CNR caboose and 1953 CNR train car.
• *Artisans, vendors, and food booths will be on-site.
Saturday, July 1 ~ 12 noon-10 p.m. at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park
Canada Day festivities will kick off at noon with Official Opening Ceremonies followed by,
• Musicians & entertainers
• Artisans, vendors, and food booths
• Community organizations and charities
• Fireworks at dusk
• Indigenous ceremonies at Giche Namewikwedong Reconciliation Garden – Sunrise Ceremony at the Giche Namewikwedong Reconciliation Garden at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park, followed by ceremonials fires, workshops and education, drumming, storytelling, and an evening Sacred fire.
• Black history, stories, and education
• Big Canoe trips
• The Billy Bishop Museum will be hosting Ghost Walks during the evening hours.
• The Owen Sound Farmers Market will also be open from 8am to 12:30 p.m.
• The Visitors Centre and the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre will be open all day for tours, merchandise, bike rentals, and tourist information
