The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Parry Sound District, is stocking adult brook trout into Armstrong Lake in time for Family Fishing Weekend. The stocking is being done in partnership with the Township of McKellar and volunteers from the community. This is not an organized event. The intent is to have these fish available to anglers for the Family Fishing Weekend but anglers can come and enjoy this unique fishing experience throughout the winter.
Approximately 1,600 fish will be stocked with an average size of 1 kg (2 lb). The fish are ‘retired’ brood stock from MNRF’s North Bay Fish Culture Station that have been used to collect and fertilize eggs for regular stocking programs.
Public access to Armstrong Lake is available at the Township of McKellar municipal office within the community of McKellar on Highway 124, 25 km east of Parry Sound.
