The St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers (www.sjiha.ca) have organized this fishing event for 11 years. The event runs the full free fishing week in the waters surrounding St. Joseph Island and is for youth and adults.

There are cash prizes awarded to both youth and adults for the largest fish in 6 fish categories.

The contest is based on taking a photograph of the fish caught on a measuring device provided when contestants register for the derby. Once the photo has been submitted to our web site the fish can be kept or released to live another day.

The derby has six fish categories Perch, Pike, Walleye, Bass, Salmon/Trout and Cisco (Lake Herring). Fish can be caught day or night from a boat in open water or from a dock in front of your camp.

Having the event during the free fishing week allows families that currently do not have fishing licenses to enjoy the sport of fishing.
