The Rural Unit is currently organizing our annual Cops Kids and Fishing day for July 12th 2013. Kids love fishing, and police personnel know the benefits of kids enjoying healthy outdoor activities. This inspired the Police Association of Ontario to team up with Bob Izumi, Canadian Tire Corporation and Fishing Forever to create a grassroots program that encourages youngsters to go fishing.
Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children. Police officers spend their entire careers protecting children. This program is a perfect way for kids to learn that these dedicated men and women care about them as individuals, not as potential young offenders.
This event will take place July 12th 2013 at Whitewater Lake in Azilda and will run between 0800-1600hrs. Youths from various youth centers within the city will receive the invitation to attend and spend a day with a police officer doing some fishing. We are aiming at receiving roughly 40-50 youths attend the event this year.
