It’s Family Day and what a great way to celebrate the return of the children’s winter fishing derby!
Registration begins at 10 am, the derby starts at 10 am and runs until 2 pm, and winners are announced at 3 pm.
The Anishinabe Spiritual Centre will be open throughout the day for registration, a warming centre, washroom access and food access.
Fishy Fishy Bang Bang, a local bait/fish/hunt supply business, is the official sponsor in partnership with The Moose 99.3 FM – CJJM – Espanola, the organizer of the event.
The Espanola Game and Fish Club, the Espanola & District Snowmobile Club, Noojmowin Teg, a local health centre, and others will be on site as volunteers to set up the holes, ensure the safety of children, and handle registration.
The Espanola Elks Club is hosting a barbecue, which will feature hot dogs and hot chocolate for a small fee, with all proceeds going directly to their organization for its ongoing charity work.
Giant Tiger and The Moose 99.3 FM are donating gifts to all the children, so they all go home with a little something.

Parking is available along Lake Anderson Road and Highway Six.
The Manitoulin OPP and the Manitoulin DSAB Community Program Paramedics will also be dropping by.
Please note: if the ice is not in good condition, activities are also being set up for the kids to be able to have a fun day in the snow. Let’s hope Old Man Winter decides to make a stand! See you there!
