Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, scheduled for Sunday February 14, has been CANCELLED.

The overall ice thickness is sufficient for safety, however there is significant slush on most of the lake. Conservation Sudbury staff feel that the conditions are not suitable for families to have an enjoyable day on the lake. Since this event is geared towards introducing families, and especially children, to the fun of ice fishing, we would want everyone to have a positive first experience. We don’t believe the current ice conditions, combined with the cold temperatures expected for the weekend, would provide a positive experience.
Thank you to all our sponsors and partners for their support, and we look forward to seeing you at our Family Fishing event in July!

Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area

Join Conservation Sudbury for our fourth annual Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day! The event will be held on Sunday, February 14th, 2016 at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet (2309 South Bay Rd.) from 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m. That weekend is an Ontario Family Fishing weekend, so no fishing licenses are required (more information at ontariofamilyfishing.com). Ice fishing activities will include learning proper catch and release techniques and making your own ice fishing rod from a stick. Ice augers, gear and free bait will be available courtesy of the OFAH/OPG TackleShare program and Ramakko’s. Round out the day with building a snowman or sculpture on the lake, or going for a snowshoe out on the lake or hiking trails – snowshoes and maps will be available for free. Warm up at any time at the Nature Chalet or by our outdoor fire and enjoy complimentary hot beverages. All ages are welcome!

No registration is required – drop in any time! Please call (705) 674-8904 or email lakelaurentian@gmail.com for more information.
