The event is organized by the St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers and is carried out in the waters around and on the Island including waters on the north shore from Bar River to Thessalon. The derby is in conjunction with the free family fishing week to allow people without a fishing license to take part. There are 6 fish categories included in the derby, perch, bass, pike, walleye, salmon (which includes trout) and ciscoe (herring). Pictures are taken by the competitor showing total length on a tape measure we provide and the photo is sent to our website at derby@sjiha.ca allowing for live release of the fish caught. Cost for the event is $50.00 for adults and $20.00 for kids 15 and under. A meal at the awards ceremony is included in your registration. Pre registration is on June 30th and the morning of July 1st and registration forms and rules can be found on our web site at www.sjiha.ca.
