Derby is open to anyone under the age of 17. License free fishing permitted for all ages
Through the sponsorship of Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire, the Municipality of Port Hope and the GRCA, are hosting a Fishing Derby on July 8. All participants are required to register at the tent located just north of Port Hope’s Marina near the Fish cleaning station along the Ganaraska River.
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture will be running a fishing derby for children under 17 years of age. The derby will have three categories, Longest Fish, Widest Fish and most fish caught. The Derby is catch and release. Prizes will be awarded in all three categories.
Members from the Port Hope Police Services and the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority will be on site assisting with the days events. Fisheries Biologist will be available to answer questions or provide some insight into species being caught.
The Port Hope Public Library Mary J. Benson Branch is hosting a “Go Fish!” day at the 31 Queen Street location.
Participant are encouraged to bring:
Fishing equipment
Life jacket
Sunscreen
Sense of adventure
